SLPSA Members,

SLPSA is actively pursuing the education of our Board Members, Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Managers and our entire Membership concerning the subject of concussions.  The following are some steps we have taken to better educate ourselves as a Club. 

• All Summer 2012 SLPSA Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers are required to complete a concussion education certification provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC). 
• All Summer 2012 SLPSA Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers are being requested to review the current MN State and MYSA governing body policies concerning concussions.

We are asking the entire SLPSA Membership to become more educated regarding concussions by considering the review of the following materials;

• The CDC Concussion Education Video can be reviewed at http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/online_training.html .
• The MN State Concussion Law can be reviewed at http://mnyouthsoccer.org/programs/mn_concussion_law.pdf .

We are also planning to have additional information available at the upcomng Open House event which should be announced shortly. 

The third annual winter Futsal tournament hosted by Joy of the People and St. Louis Park Soccer Association is scheduled for Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26 at the St. Louis Park Senior High.

Kris Foner has accepted our new non-voting board position of Community Outreach Coordinator.  We are very excited to have Kris on board.  Kris is fluent in Spanish, she is a licensed Spanish teacher, who is currently working on her Masters degree in Human Resources Management.  She has played soccer from childhood through college and has been very active in coaching her children's teams through out the years. 

Kris will work with various leaders and other key stakeholders within the club to minimize barriers that our English Language Learner (ELL) families sometimes face with regards to registration, try-outs and attendance at practice, games and tournaments.
