Hi folks,
The team manager for my older daughter's team did a fantastic job summarizing the open house. Plagiarism is the best form of flattery :-)
Thanks to everyone who could attend the Open House last night! It's going to be a great season! Here's a quick recap of what we covered:
1. Paperwork and Forms: Everyone did a great job of bringing the paperwork including, Proof of Age, Medical Waiver and $100 volunteer check. I still have a couple to collect so check the attached spreadsheet (right columns) for the status. If you believe that all of your dibs hours have been fulfilled, please contact our administrator, Deb Kessler (
admin.director@slpsa.com) with questions/concerns about that. If you are not intending to work the hours and just want the check cashed at the end of the season -- please let me know and I can forward that request along. The current season ends in July/Regional Tournament that SLSPA hosts. We've had unfilled hours since the current season began with try-outs last summer -- so please don't count on helping at this summer's tryouts for fulfilling the hours for the current season.
2. Website and Twitter: Please check the website 1st for the most up-to-date info. We'll update the calendar and put important information on the site. As mentioned, I'm going to try something new this year where I will use Twitter to send bulk text messages to everyone. I will use this in case of rain-outs, etc so that we all don't drive out to MTKA only to find out the game is cancelled. I am not familiar with Twitter so it will take me a bit to figure it out.
3. Dates: we'll get our schedule once David, Karla or I attend the MYSA meeting in mid April. But please know that we will most likely need to do some rescheduling. Please send me an email with your player's schedule before the season begins (band concerts, plays, overnight camps, vacations, etc.). If I don't hear from you, we will assume there won't be any scheduling issues.
4. Concussions: Please go to the
www.slpsa.com website and take the CDC concussion online class -- it's about 30 minutes. If your player is removed from practice/game due to suspected concussion she can't return to play unless you provide a note from a doctor to Chato. Safety first!
5. Clinics/Camps: Luis Ocampo is again conducting camps (U13-18) at Walker beginning June 25 from 9-11 a.m. -- striking, scoring, finishing. Please contact Luis (
midwestkarateslp@aol.com) for a copy of the flyer. There will also be a goalie clinic sponsored by SLPSA -- details on that will be available later in the season. This is optional -- no expectation -- just wanted you to know about it.
6. Uniforms: We will receive these some time in April. The jersey number from your previous uniform may not be your current number. The uniform coordinator wanted to ensure that each age group had different numbers for each player so your player may not receive her all-time favorite number. Fine by me if they want to trade with each other if the sizing permits -- but once we get the jersey numbers posted on our Competitive Match Reports -- that's it.
7. Sportsmanship: Parents (Tootsie pops or dum dums this year?) and Players -- it's really important to represent our team and our club well. My request of the team this year is to shake the refs hands after each game after doing the good game handshake with our opponents -- it looks classy even if you disagree with how a game is called. I also said that they are old enough that I am not going to be reminding them about this request...as Nike says -- Just do it!
8. Practice/Playing time: David discussed how he would like the team to develop and attending practices and paying attention are an important step. Please have your player at the practice field on time and ready to practice immediately upon arrival. Cell phones should only be used before and after practice - not during practice.
9. Goals: Moving up to C2 for next season is the goal. We'll be working hard this season to build on the success from last year. Please arrive at each practice on time, ready to start and work hard.
Thanks to all of you who filled out the pink sheet to support our team with various volunteer roles.
