Club/Team Volunteer Commitment 2011

Welcome SLPSA Families!

 In House Soccer Program Players:

If your son or daughter is registered with the In-House program you do not have a formal commitment level to fulfill as part of your player's registration, but your volunteer support is still greatly appreciated!  Please consider supporting the Club's efforts by contacting your In-House Coach or the In-House Coordinator for opportunities.

 Traveling Soccer Program Players

If your son or daughter is registered with the traveling soccer program a volunteer commitment is required.  There are 3 types of volunteers...Club Level, Team Level and Suppport Level.  These are defined in detail at the bottom of this page, but generally you must fulfill your volunteer hours at the Support level unless you are a Board member, Coach, Assistant Coach or Team Manager.

Frequently Asked Questions about
SUPPORT VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT

?HOW MANY VOLUNTEER HOURS ARE REQUIRED?

The short answer: 5 hours per family for EACH player registered on a traveling team.   5 hours is equivalent to 10 Dibs credits as each credit is worth 1/2 hour.

The long answer: This year SLPSA is implementing a new method to help make the volunteer commitment more equitable for every member. In previous years, each traveling team was required to volunteer as a team to staff the concession stand a certain number of evenings.  For the 2011 soccer season, each traveling player’s family will be required to volunteer 5 hours or 10 credits for every player registered on a traveling team.  Each credit is 1/2 hour of time.
At the time of registration for the 2011 season you gave your electronic signature to the following in order to complete the process of registering your player:

Parents of summer season traveling soccer players are required to provide their Coach/Team Manager (upon request) a $100 volunteer deposit check made out to ‘SLPSA’. These checks will be held by SLPSA until the end of the season. SLPSA will contact parents regarding scheduling of volunteering opportunities which may/may not be available starting during the previous Fall season(tryout support). After parents have satisfied the minimum number of 5 volunteer hours per player registered, the checks will be destroyed. SLPSA may cash deposit checks if the minimum volunteer support requirements are not satisfied. Coaches, Team Managers, SLPSA Board Members and other Club volunteers are exempt from the volunteer requirement .  Scholarship players are not required to provide volunteer deposit checks, but are not excused from their volunteer responsibilities. Parents with multiple children are required to submit a separate deposit check for each player registered.
      ?HOW DO I VOLUNTEER?

The short answer: Click on Dibs tab on the right hand side of home page.

The long answer: On the SLPSA website, log in using your NGIN username and password. Click on the “Dibs” tab on the right hand side of the SLPSA homepage. The page shows that 10 credits are required for each registered player. Each credit is worth ½ hour of time (10 credits x 1/2 = 5 hours of required volunteer time per registered player).  Follow the instructions to choose a volunteer opportunity from this Dibs page.

?WILL OPPORTUNITIES BE POSTED  FOR THE WHOLE SEASON SO WE CAN PLAN AHEAD?

The short answer: Yes, as much as possible.

The long answer:   Although the game schedule comes out for the entire regular season, there are many schedule changes throughout the season which can affect volunteer opportunities.   For your planning purposes, in general , the concession stand will be open Monday through Thursday with some occasional Saturdays.  During the 2011 season, the concession stand will be open during the baseball Slugfest tournament hosted by St Louis Park.  This happens on a weekend in May.   SLPSA also hosts league playoffs and regional playoffs that are approximately July 17- July 23. Volunteers are critical during playoffs.   These shifts cannot be posted until we get the schedule from MYSA which doesn’t happen until early July.  If you like being busy, needed, and appreciated, save some of your hours for playoff shifts.

?WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE CHOSEN A SHIFT BUT CAN NOT FULFILL MY CHOSEN SHIFT?

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN CHOOSING YOUR SHIFTS AND COMMIT ONLY FOR SHIFTS THAT FIT IN YOUR SCHEDULE.

If an emergency prevents you from working your chosen shift,
AND IF IS MORE THAN 1 week before your shift you will be able to manually cancel your shift and it will automatically be reposted.

If an emergency arises within 7 days before the shift, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND A REPLACEMENT.  Your team volunteer coordinator or team manager may assist you in finding another parent from your team who has not completed their volunteer requirements.

?CAN MY CHILDREN WORK IN THE STAND?

The short answer: No but children ten or older can pull the wagon in the field with an adult to supervise.

The long answer:  The Louisiana Oaks concession stand is very small and so we ask that kids do not “work” or stay in the stand. We understand that you may need to keep an eye on them while you fulfill your shift so checking in is fine.  Only the hours of children 16 and older will count towards your volunteer commitment and only children 16 and older are allowed to work in the stand.  All workers, regardless of age, must be willing to stock and clean up the stand.  Last year, teens frequently left before the stand was cleaned and ready to close for the evening.  This placed lots of extra work on other volunteers.

?WHO WILL TRACK MY VOLUNTEER TIME AND ENSURE MY CHECK IS NOT CASHED?

The short answer: Sign in at the concession stand when you work your shift .

The long answer: The Dibs system is set up to automatically track volunteer time and to allow SLPSA to determine who has or has not fulfilled their volunteer commitment. Please keep in mind that this is the first year of implementing this system so there may be bugs and bumps in this process. Volunteers will be asked to sign in at the Louisiana Oaks concession stand this summer in order to have a back up record to help ensure you are credited properly.  This sign-in sheet  will also be used to verify that you worked your shift.

?WHAT ABOUT MY VOLUNTEER TIME AT THE FUTSAL TOURNAMENT IN MARCH AND THE TRYOUTS LAST SUMMER?

These volunteer hours have been recorded and, as announced, will count towards your required commitment.  If you find that you have not been credited properly please contact admin.director@slpsa.com.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we correct errors.

?WHO DO I CONTACT IF I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT VOLUNTEERING?

Begin by asking your team concession coordinator.  He or she is acting as the "bridge" to help as we make the change from a team-volunteer  commitment to a per-registered-player volunteer commitment.

If your team concession coordinator can't answer your questions please contact admin.director@slpsa.org

The 3 Volunteer Levels Defined:

Club Volunteers
Club Volunteers include Board Members and other Club Coordinators generally listed on the 'Contact Us' page of this website.   Club Volunteers donate a significant amount of time to the Club and are exempt from the volunteer responsibilities as part of their player's registration.

Team Volunteers
Team Volunteers donate their time and efforts towards the goals of a specific team.  Team Volunteers are a vital part of the Club but usually a smaller amount of volunteer time/effort is needed.  Team Volunteers include the list of volunteers posted to the left. (team party coordinators, team concession coordinators, etc) The only Team Level volunteers who are exempt from the per player volunteer responsibilities are Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers, due to their significant time commitment.  Hours volunteered towards other team positions do not count towards a player's Traveling registration responsibilities.

SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS
Support volunteers are all the SLPSA members except Club Level volunteers, Coaches, Assistants and Team Managers.   Support Volunteers support  our soccer team by volunteering in positions posted on the Dibs system on this site.  Volunteer opportunities will generally be running the concession stand, running tournaments or assisting at tryouts.  Please remember that your valuable time helps to keep our club strong.  All proceeds from concession sales and tournaments go toward scholarships for SLPSA players.
